This is Erskine Childers' well known work on his war against the Boers as a City Imperial Volunteeer. It's a reprint of the 1901 edition published in 1999 and both book and dustjacket are in almost Mint condition. Childers was a real adventurer, he sailed (his famous work on this subject being The Riddle of the Sands). Latterly he grew disillusioned with the British in Ireland and became an Irish Republican, he served on the Republican delegation that negotiated the Free State Treaty in 1921. Ultimately, along with De Valera he rejected that treaty helping to plunge the Free State into a bloody civil war. Following the murder of Michael Collins by the Free State rejectionist the war against the rejectionist became even more brutal and Childers was arrested, unforunately he was armed with a pistol at the time and was executed for illegal possession of a weapon. The twist in that story was that he had been given the pistol by Collins himself. This book is worth a read by any scholar of The Boer War and is in very nice condition indeed.
